Myelogram in Houston and Surrounding Areas

A myelogram, or myelography, is an x-ray examination of the spinal cord and the surrounding space. It is a safe and painless procedure that is used to identify a herniated or ruptured disk (also called a “slipped disk”). In patients with spinal arthritis, it can be used to identify sharp outgrowths of vertebral bone called bone spurs, as well as tumors, infection, inflammation, injury and abnormalities of the blood vessels feeding the spinal cord. Often, a myelogram is performed when magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) cannot be performed or has not provided enough information to make a diagnosis.

During the myelogram procedure with Synergy Vascular and Interventional, a contrast is injected into the spinal canal under X-ray guidance. X-ray images are then obtained which are interpreted by one of our highly-trained and subspecialized interventional radiologists to evaluate the spinal column, spinal cord, areas of disk bulging and nerve roots. Patients undergoing workup for back pain may benefit from the additional information provided by this procedure.
